Rockwell Automation's new distributed intrinsically safe I/O modules provide Ethernet/IP connectivity to field devices in Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous areas.

Allen Bradley 1718 Ex I/O modules simplify device connections in hazardous areas and are ideal for applications in industries such as chemical, food, and oil & gas.
They offer maximum efficiency with compact hardware. The scalable platform offers flexible configuration options from 10-slot chassis to 40-slot chassis to meet various system requirements. To maximize installation space, the main power supply and an optional power supply for redundancy can sit into the chassis.

For the assembly of the Rockwell Automation 1718 Ex I/O modules, an ATEX certified enclosure is required in an Atex Zone 1 area. In order to offer a complete solution, Rockwell Automation decided to collaborate with its partner Encompass Pepperl + Fuchs to provide its customers with certified enclosures for Zone 1.

KEY FEATURES OF ROCKWELL AUTOMATION I/O MODULES

  • They reduce wiring in industrial applications as they can be mounted close to field devices in hazardous areas
  • They save space with a compact, chassis-based design
  • They are flexible thanks to the various types of chassis and slot sizes
  • They improve network resilience thanks to the presence of a dual port EtherNet/IP adapter for Device Level Ring (DLR) topology

ADVANTAGES
Intrinsically safe I/O to satisfy application requirements

  • 1718 Ex I/O is certified for mounting in Zone 1, in certified enclosures
  • Connects on EtherNet/IP in Zone 0 and Zone 1
  • Supports Studio 5000 Logix Designer® application
  • The design of these I/O modules is compact and chassis based
  • It saves installation space as the power supply sits in the chassis

Reliable and scalable system

  • System redundancy is possible thanks to the use of the optional power supply
  • Device Level Ring (DLR) support is enabled with two EtherNet/IP ports on the adapter
  • HART 7 support is standard on all analog modules
  • EtherNet/IP cables allow connection between the 1718 Ex I/O chassis and other non-Ex adapters or switches
